GM Sam Sevian won the 2023 Champions Showdown after a brilliant final day, where he defeated both Garry Kasparov and Fabiano Caruana to finish with 7.0/9 and take home the $37,500 first place prize.

Finishing in a three-way tie for second were GM Levon Aronian, GM Wesley So, and GM Sam Shankland, who each ended with 6.0/9 points.

Levon Aronian and Sam Sevian managed to overtake the lead after an exciting Day 2 in the 2023 Champions Showdown: Chess 9LX, going into the final rounds tomorrow with 4.5/6. A full point behind the leaders are Fabiano Caruana, Wesley So, and Sam Shankland, each with 3.5/6, while former World Champion Garry Kasparov stumbled after leading Day 1, scoring only 0.5/3 to end the day on 3.0/6.

Former World Champion Garry Kasparov stormed in to grab the lead on the first day of the 2023 Champions Showdown: Chess9LX, as he scored two wins against So and Robson along with a draw against Nakamura to end the day in clear first place with 2.5/3. Tied for second going into Day 2 were Levon Aronian and Sam Sevian, both half a point behind with 2.0/3.

GM Abhimanyu Mishra became the 2023 U.S. Junior Chess Champion after drawing his last round game to reach 6.0/9 points, half a point ahead of four players who tied for second, GM Brandon Jacobson, GM Andrew Hong, GM Balaji Daggupati, and IM Arthur Guo.

After drawing their games both GM Melik Khachiyan and IM-elect Alice Lee clinched national titles with a round to spare in the 2023 U.S. Senior and U.S. Girls’ Junior Championships. Their victory was secured after they both reached 6.5/8 points, with their key rivals no longer able to catch them in the standings.

GM Melik Khachiyan continued his stellar performance with another win in the U.S. Senior, bringing his score to 5.5/6 and extending his lead to two full points ahead of the field. Meanwhile GM Abhimanyu Mishra survived a lost endgame to stay tied for the lead in the U.S. Junior, while IM-elect Alice Lee kept her lead intact with a win in the U.S. Girls’ Junior.

GM Melik Khachiyan took the sole lead with 4.5/5 in the U.S. Senior after defeating his main rival GM Max Dlugy in today’s round. In the U.S. Junior GM Andrew Hong bounced back to share the lead with GM Abhimanyu Mishra and IM Arthur Guo, while IM-elect Alice Lee’s lead in the U.S. Girls Junior was cut to just half a point going into the rest day tomorrow.

Grandmasters Melik Khachiyan and Maxim Dlugy continued their excellent run in the 2023 U.S. Senior Championship, as they lead the event with 3.5/4. Meanwhile top seed in the U.S. Junior GM Abhimanyu Mishra took down tournament leader GM Andrew Hong, while IM Arthur Guo notched his third straight win. In the U.S. Girls' Junior, IM-elect Alice Lee defeated fellow co-leader FM Zoey Tang to take the sole lead with 3.5/4.
