Tournament Regulations

The 2016 Saint Louis Invitational shall be paired in two sections: a 10-player GM norm round robin and a 10-player IM norm round robin.

  • Time Control: G/90 + 30 seconds from move 1
  • Notation: Due to the 30-second increment, Players are required to maintain an accurate and legible score sheet at all times during all games, and are required to keep their notation up-to-date.
  • Chief Arbiter Discretion: In the event of an unexpected occurrence, the Chief Arbiter reserves the right to make all decisions in conjunction with or on behalf of the CHESS CLUB.

 

How to earn the GM Title

For a player to earn a GM title, he/she needs to earn 3 GM Norms and achieve a rating of 2500 FIDE.

A norm is a high-level of performance in a chess tournament.  A player needs to earn a performance rating of 2600 and compete in a tournament that satisfies the following conditions:

  • minimum of 9 rounds

  • ⅓ of a player’s opponents need to be Grandmasters, or 3 minimum GM’s

  • minimum of 5 days in duration

  • opponents of the player must be from several different federations
